Beyonce/ Mary J. Blige Duet Was Meant For 4

'She sent it through her A&R people to give to me,' MJB says of My Life II's 'Love a Woman.'

Not sure how to keep your woman happy? Just ask Mary J. Blige and Beyoncé. The two divas lay out a tutorial on how to court the fairer sex with "Love a Woman," from MJB's upcoming My Life II ... The Journey Continues, Act I. But fans may be surprised to learn that the long-overdue collaboration was nearly a one-woman affair.

B initially recorded the song for her4 LP, but thought it would be a better fit as a duet with Mary.

"It was a song she recorded for her album that didn't fit her album and she sent it through her A&R people to give to me," Mary revealed to MTV News. "When the song came, her voice was on it completely and it was just amazing and I wasn't sure that they wanted to give me this record because it was so amazing."

The soothing track starts off with Mary sweetly singing, "So you think you know how to love a woman/ But I think it's still some things you need to know." As the flowery instrumental builds with a serene piano melody and accentuating horns, MJB goes on to warn that a woman needs more than material things. B turns up the heat demanding that she needs "more than sex," she needs to be made love to. From there, the song plays as a lyrical how-to. Communication is a must, as is respect, but coming home late and being a one-minute man is a no-no.

While both the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and an expecting Queen B display good chemistry on the song, a video for the track may be hard to pull off. "I'm sure 'Love a Woman' would be a single but I can't really trouble Beyoncé right now; she's pregnant and I'm sure she's doing her stuff," Mary said. "So whenever she's ready, if she's ever ready, I'm ready and it'll be great."

Should MJB and B shoot a video for "Love a Woman"? Tell us in the comments!

'Dark Knight Rises' And More: 20 Best Trailers Of 2011

Teasers for 'Hunger Games' and 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2' also left us hungry for more.
By Eric Ditzian

Time, like the theatrical run of "Your Highness," has disappeared quickly this year. It's hard to believe it was almost 12 months ago that we were settling into our seats to check out Nicolas Cage's "Season of the Witch." That didn't work out so well.

And so, as the MTV Movies team begins our look back at the cinematic year that was 2011, we're reminded that time is precious. We don't have much of it; we must use it wisely. That's why we're beginning our series of best-of stories with movie trailers — those neat little packages of footage that let us know in a few minutes' time whether the full movie is going to be worth it. Picking our 20 favorite trailers was a tough call; just look at the ones that didn't make it, like "The Avengers," "The Amazing Spider-Man," "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Breaking Dawn - Part 1."

In the end, though, we selected the trailers that truly stuck with us — some since the early days of the year and some newer ones that are sure to haunt us into next year. Read on for our picks for the 20 best movie trailers of 2011.

20. "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy"
The trailer teases everything the movie delivers — a slowly building whodunit of a plot, an ominous score, period details so depressingly '70s-era British that the footage should come with a voucher for lithium — while at the same time succeeding in one area where the movie falters: It's not pull-your-hair-out, whisper-to-the-person-next-to-you, throw-your-hands-up-in-defeat confusing.

19. "The Muppets"
An unlikely companion piece to the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" teaser listed below, this "Muppets" trailer — one in a long line of pop-culture mash-ups — had the lovable felt creatures laser-beaming one message to viewers: Our movie may be rated PG, but we swear you'll totally dig it. And hey, if you want to get stoned in the parking lot beforehand, that's fine, dude.

18. "Battleship"
The "Battleship" trailer got a lot of crap when it dropped in July — was this just "Blue Crush" meets "Armageddon," with neither the former's sugary, shameless sex factor nor the latter's Bruce Willis? Instead let us float another way of viewing it: as an utterly wacky, probably nonsensical yet potentially blockbustering summer movie for a "Transformers"-less 2012.

17. "Martha Marcy May Marlene"
The footage builds and builds its claustrophobic tension, finally giving way to John Hawkes' homespun singer/songwriter tuneage, which somehow still doesn't allow you any catharsis, any chance just to catch your breath: All is not well in Elizabeth Olsen's world. And it's simply addicting to watch.

16. "The Woman in Black"
The tagline could have been, "Abandon hope, all ye Muggles who enter here." The first full trailer for Daniel Radcliffe's first post-"Harry Potter" film was simple and creepy and effective — and unlike anything the boy wizard has ever encountered.

15. "Red Tails"
The second trailer starts off a little hokey, but it soon morphs into a shoot-'em-up dogfight between the Tuskegee Airmen and the Axis powers. Every piece of American history should come wrapped in such fiery pop-culture packaging.

14. "Devil's Double"
Torture, guns, chicks in bikinis, Dominic Cooper doing double duty as wide-eyed innocent and psychotic tyrant — what else can one ask for in a trailer?

13. "Super 8"
While our favorite "Super 8" trailer dropped in 2010, the one J.J. Abrams unleashed this past March — with its classic movie-monster intrigue and Spielbergian patina — was still pretty kick-ass. If only the film itself had lived up to the potential of these early looks.

12. "Drive"
In a word: cool. In a few more: awesome score, awesome car chases, awesome hints at violence, awesome performance by Ryan Gosling. Mainly, though: cool as sh--.

11. "John Carter"
After checking out this trailer, we'd gladly jet off to Mars and battle a few of Edgar Rice Burroughs' baddies if it meant catching an early screening of this sci-fi epic.

10. "American Reunion"
We didn't realize we actually missed Jim and his randy pals until we glimpsed the goofball and his flute-loving wife separately, secretly pleasuring themselves to R. Kelly's "Bump N' Grind."

9. "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance"
Nicolas Cage pees fire. He f---ing pees fire and says it feels awesome. When do tickets go on sale?

8. "Like Crazy"
One of the best movies at Sundance became the hands-down finest trailer for a romantic drama in 2011, capturing all the beauty and sadness and magic that echoes between Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones in the film.

7. "Rise of the Apes"
Anyone mocking the idea of bringing back those damn dirty apes with James Franco in tow was roundly silenced when the teaser dropped in April and we peeped Andy Serkis' Caesar and his ilk unleashing simian fury on San Francisco.

6. "X-Men First Class"
Was it the sizzling score? The historical weight imbued by JFK's voice-over? The quick looks at all those mutants? Every single frame in which Michael Fassbender was onscreen? It was all of it and more that made this "X-Men" trailer one of the most epic of the year.

5. "The Hunger Games"
After the most teaser-y of teaser trailers debuted at the MTV Video Music Awards, Lionsgate came through with a ton of footage in November: districts, tributes, games-makers, the Hunger Games arena and three teens looking to swipe the throne of tween obsession-dom from Edward, Bella and Jacob.

4. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"
The feel-bad movie of Christmas gave us zero dialogue, oodles of fresh looks without anything so troublesome as context getting in the way, and Trent Reznor and Karen O's cover of "Immigrant Song." Oh, and chills: it gave us chills.

3. "Snow White and the Huntsman"
Our expectations were not high. So let us apologize to Kristen Stewart and all who are involved with this adaptation: Well done, folks! Sweeping in scale and containing some truly creative visual effects (huge crows splintering into hundreds of smaller crows, an anthropomorphic golden mirror), the trailer already would have been a 2011 highlight on its own merits. But when the silly trailer for "Mirror, Mirror," a competing Snow White flick, dropped days later, we had to revise our expectations for "Huntsman": This is how you adapt a centuries-old fairy tale for the 21st-century multiplex.

2. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"
Sure, we whooped it up to "Woman in Black." But the final "Deathly Hallows, Part 2" trailer? That sucker was not only the best "Deathly Hallows" trailer, it was arguably the best trailer of the entire franchise.

1. "The Dark Knight Rises"
This teaser should be encased in glass and studied at every studio in Hollywood as the perfect way to build excitement, deliver what core fans wants and yet not give away the whole shebang — and leave everyone dying to see more, more, more. There is simply no question: This was the best trailer of 2011, and we have a feeling it's teasing what will be the best movie of 2012.

Anne Hathaway Engaged To Adam Shulman

'Dark Knight Rises' actress started dating now-fiancé after very public breakup with Raffaello Follieri.

Anne Hathaway has found her not-so-dark knight: She is engaged to longtime boyfriend Adam Shulman.

The actress' rep confirmed that the couple, who began dating in 2008, are engaged after Hathaway was spotted sporting an engagement ring over the weekend in Brooklyn, People magazine reports. Meanwhile, E! News reports that Shulman designed the bling with Kwiat Heritage jewels.

Hathaway, who just wrapped filming her role as Catwoman alongside Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," began dating Shulman shortly after her breakup with Raffaello Follieri, who was found guilty of defrauding investors of millions of dollars when he posed as a real-estate consultant for the Vatican.

"I hate talking about the breakup because I don't want it to define me, but as is to be expected, there were a lot of lingering trust issues," Hathaway told Vogue of the highly publicized breakup.

But she has been open about her warmer feelings for her soon-to-be husband. "I am very much in love with him, [only] Adam totally ruined my plan," Hathaway explained of falling for Shulman so shortly after her split from Follieri. "I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time, and then I fell in love like a fool!"

Us Weekly reports that Hathaway and Shulman knew each other for a while before dating. "We hit it off immediately, but it took us a pretty long time to get together. Things sped up a bit [when I realized we were both single] — and I think I'll leave it at that."

While her last relationship made headlines, Hathaway described this one as much lower-key. "Mellow doesn't always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life," she said.

Share your congratulations for Hathaway and her fiancé in the comments!

'X Factor': Astro Raps Through His Drama

Two contestants will go home on Wednesday's results episode.
By Adam Graham

Astro on "X Factor"
Photo: FOX

Teen rapper Astro addressed his blow-up last week and promised to not let his fans down again during Tuesday's (November 22) performance episode of "The X Factor," which found the competition's top nine contestants dedicating their performances to special people in their lives.

Astro, the 15-year-old Brooklyn rapper who had a near meltdown and almost refused to perform after landing in the bottom two on last week's results episode, explained in a pre-packaged introduction he "didn't know how to control my emotions" last week and he "could have handled it better." He then went on to address the situation further in an original song he performed set to Jay-Z's "Show Me What You Got," in which he rapped, "Got my head in the right place and I'm back to win."

Before the judges weighed in on his song, he explained to his fans, "To Team Astro and all the Astronauts across the world, but mostly hip-hop, I'll never let you down again."

Simon Cowell, who harshly criticized Astro for his attitude last week, took to the young MC's apology. "The music business needs unpredictability," Cowell said, explaining he admired Astro for speaking his mind. His mentor L.A. Reid went with the cooler-heads approach as well. "As long as you keep a good head on your shoulders and always do your very best, you'll be fine," he told him.

Here's how the rest of the evening's performances shook out.

The Girls
Rachel Crow opened the show and dedicated Yolanda Adams' "I Believe" to her adoptive parents. The performance sparkled, and never one to exaggerate, Abdul said Crow was proof angels exist on earth. Melanie Amaro enjoyed her biggest moment yet on the show, and following her performance of R. Kelly's "The World's Greatest" she excitedly celebrated onstage, shouting out her upbringing in the Virgin Islands. Cowell said she is needed in the competition, and Nicole Scherzinger stopped the show to give her a hug, nearly giving ultra time-conscious host Steve Jones a heart attack. And L.A. Reid showed another lapse in his musical knowledge when he criticized Drew for not singing "age appropriate" material, after the 15-year-old sang 19-year-old Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper." That put Cowell on the offensive, and he spat back at his rival, "I'm sick to death of your pointless, stupid criticism," going on to call it "unfounded," "inaccurate" and "complete and utter rubbish." In this case, we sort of have to agree with Cowell.

The Boys
Marcus Canty dedicated Boyz II Men's "A Song for Mama" to his own mama, who was sitting at the foot of the stage, and earned unanimous praise from the judges. "I've worked with some great singers, you are as great as any great singer I've ever worked with," Reid told him, while Cowell said Canty put himself back in the competition with the performance. Chris Rene, meanwhile, sang a mix of the Beatles' "Let It Be" and his own "Young Homie," which he sang in the early audition rounds. "You reminded everyone why we liked you," Cowell said, echoing the sentiments of all the judges.

The Over 30s
Josh Krajcik closed the show singing the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" alone at his piano, surrounded by a series of spotlights that made him look like a prisoner in some sort of light jail. Abdul called the burrito maker "larger than life" and Cowell said he was "outstanding," while Scherzinger told him, "Beyond this competition, I strongly believe your music can change the world." LeRoy Bell took on Sarah McLachlan's "Angel," the soundtrack to way too many of those wrenching animal cruelty awareness ads, and dedicated the song to his late mother. The judges thought it was his best performance, save for Reid, who called it "heartfelt for sure, but not your very best."

The Group
Lakoda Rayne, the sole remaining group in the competition, chose to sing Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" -- an odd choice for a dedication, though they were celebrated by the judges. But Cowell seemed to already be acknowledging their fate when he said, "I genuinely wish two people weren't going home tomorrow."

Yes, two acts are slated to get the ax during Wednesday's results episode --- so much for the warmth of the season! --- which is also set to feature performances by Kelly Clarkson and Bruno Mars.

What did you think of Tuesday's "X Factor"? Did you believe Astro's explanation for his behavior? Let us know in the comments!

Michael Fassbender Looks Back On 'Surreal' 2011

From 'X-Men: First Class' to 'Shame,' Fassbender is one of the actors MTV News is most thankful for this year.
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Every once in a while, an actor with a breakout role will come along and capture the attention of both moviegoers and the people behind the films. Soon, you can find that same actor headlining films at festivals as well as scoring top billing on blockbusters.

For 2011, that actor was undoubtedly Michael Fassbender, who wowed the art-house crowd in 2008 with "Hunger" and found wider audiences a year later with Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" as the British Lieutenant Archie Hicox, who reserves a circle of hell for people who waste good scotch.

This past year, Fassbender became a superstar. He helped lead a brand-new team of mutants to box-office success as a young Magneto in "X-Men: First Class," and then delivered critically praised performances in "Jane Eyre," "A Dangerous Method" and "Shame," for which he's receiving Oscar buzz.

That's why we've named Michael Fassbender one of the actors we're most thankful for this holiday season. We sat down with Fassbender and gave him a chance to look back on 2011 and tell us why a different year — 2007 — meant everything to him.

MTV: Every year at MTV, we choose a few actors that we're most thankful for around Thanksgiving, and you've made the cut.

Fassbender: Have I really?

MTV: You have.

Fassbender: Nice one.

MTV: Obviously, a couple years back, when "Inglourious" hit, especially, that was a big moment for you, but it feels like this year has to be professionally the most satisfying year.

Fassbender: No, I got to say, for me, definitely 2007 changed my life.

MTV: "Hunger."

Fassbender: Yeah, Steve McQueen gave me an opportunity, a possibility to show some sort of capability in my profession. It was coming at a point when we were about to go into a recession. That was going to affect this business as much as any business — less jobs for less actors. For him to take a risk on an unknown in a lead role, it changed my life, really. From that, I had all these amazing experiences with Andrea Arnold, Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh, Cary Fukunaga, David Cronenberg, Ridley Scott.

MTV: It feels like this is where it all bears fruit. The seeds that were planted then, now it all starts to come out.

Fassbender: Yeah, you start off and you just want to be working, so jobbing actors, you're already thankful for that opportunity. To be in this position that I'm in now, it's ridiculous. Somebody pull the plug on me now. I have to say I'm blessed. When I started out when I was 17, this was the pinnacle, to be working with people that I find inspiring, I can learn from. It's a very privileged position.

MTV: Was there one particular moment in this year of 2011 that was the most surreal, the biggest high for you? A lot of premieres, a lot of production work, a lot of press. Was there one moment you can pinpoint?

Fassbender: Just lots of surreal moments. When I was sitting in a balcony in Venice — I've never been to Venice before — and I'm there with family and friends, and we're like, "Wow, this is a trip, isn't it?" We're all sort of experiencing this together. You're always sort of pinching yourself.

Being on a Quentin Tarantino set. When I was 18, I did a stage version of "Reservoir Dogs" with my friends, where I directed, produced, played Mr. Pink. I mean, I was totally green. I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but I knew that with hard work and enthusiasm, things get done. So then to be sitting on set with him, I was like, "This is weird." Already at the audition with him was strange, because he reads all the other parts. That was surreal.

To have this sort of reception we've had for both films in Venice, to be there with two films, all those things are pretty mad.

Check out everything we've got on "Shame."

Kristen Wiig: GQ Magazine?s Bro of the Year

She?s one of the funniest women in show business, and Kristen Wiig was recently honored as GQ Magazine?s Bro of the Year in their annual Men of the Year issue.

The ?Saturday Night Live? babe was applauded for her accomplishments by her ?Bridesmaids? costar Jon Hamm in a well-written essay in GQ.

Hamm mused, ?The opening bit in Bridesmaids with all the crazy sexual acrobatics was done on the very last day of shooting. Bounding around in a flesh-colored thong, trying not to sweat all over Kristen while a hundred crew members are literally like, ?Can we get this done, please???our embarrassment coupled with everyone else's exhaustion lent that scene a particularly awkward sensibility.?

?But it was inspiring to watch Kristen quarterback the team, be the cheerleader and decision-maker, and then get in front of the camera and be hilarious. And surprising. For a lot of comics, there's a persona they're not comfortable revealing unless they're performing. Kristen is incredibly shy; she has her hoodie pulled up and her sleeves pulled over her hands. But this is a woman who wore coconuts on her t*ts on SNL; she can go to the craziest, most grotesque places on the planet in character.?

Justin Bieber Should 'Stay Strong,' Usher Says

'All of this comes with the territory,' Ush tells MTV News of paternity-suit drama.
By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Ben Rose/ WireImage

Usher might not have known how big Justin Bieber would become when he discovered him a few years back, but he was pretty sure he had found something special.

Since Bieber burst on the scene with his My World EP back in 2009, the 17-year-old has grown up with the world watching. He's gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years.

Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped.

Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: "Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory."

Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber's charitable side. His mentor said he "absolutely" knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start.

"To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future," Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it.

Usher — who appears on Bieber's new Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe — gives credit to the folks surrounding the teen superstar, including manager Scooter Braun. "Just judging from the determination and the will power of the entire team around Justin, I see a very, very promising [future] for him as a philanthropist," Usher said.
